LOCATION:The temple is located in the old town of Xanthi.
THE MONUMENT:It is a Basilica with a wooden roof and a newer narthex. The towershaped bell tower was built probably in the early 20th century.According to the repoussed graffito on the north wall of the narthex the temple was rebuilt in 1834.The temple was possibly built on the ruins of another smaller temple wich was ruined by the 1829's earthquakes.
The wooden and repoussed temple is of great importance as it is decorated with animals and plants.Other woodcut pieces of furniture wich stand out are the pulpit and the proskinitaria of Zoodohos Pigi and Saint Theodor the Tironos.
The icons of the temple are remarkable. Those standing out are:Jesus Christ as a Big High Priest(1741),Virgin Mary Glikofilousa (1741) and the icon of Archangel Michael(1741).From the rest of the icons of the temple, very important for the local history are the three Hierarchs,Saint Constantine with Saint Helen and Saint Haralabos. These Icons were created in 1833 by the hagiographer from Enos,Kyriakos.
The embroidered icon of Archangel Michael wich was made by the embroiderer,Ekaterini Boulli and was donated to the temple by Lord Sgourof who was from Xanthi.
