Temple Of Akathistos Hemnos,,Xanthi

LOCATION: The temple is situated in the district of Ouzoun Sokak (Long Neighbourhood),old town of Xanthi.

THE MONUMENT:According to an epigraph on the western wall of the temple, it was built by the Metropolite of Xanthi Dionisios on the ruins of a previous ,smaller temple in 1861.

On the wooden temple there are the icons of Christ Almighty,Saint Athanasios,Archangels Michael and Gabriel ,Virgin Mary Holding Jesus ,Saint Spiridon,Saint Dimitrios and the Godhead, which are dated in the end of the 19th century.

The εφέστια icon of Virgin Mary the Odigitria which is on the proskinitari of the temple is dated back in the 16th century was repainted during the 18th century.
