General information on the Community of Amaxades

The Municipality of Amaxades is situated 28 km west of Komotini. The village has a population of 1,923 and has experienced remarkable development due to the settlement of refugees and people from mountainous Rodopi. It is one of the few villages in Thrace with an increasing population.
It has belonged to the province of Komotini since 1923. It came under the Community of Iasmos until 1951, when it was declared a separate community. The Community of Amaxades, which consists of the villages Pelekiti, Monaxoi and Katsika, remains independent even after the implementation of Law 2539/1997.
