An analytic study of ancient Greek writers, of poetry and prose, form the early classical period until the post-Christian Arrian is given in the book Agerides kai kymata (Breezes and Waves). This study weaves together the references to Thrace as given in the epic poetry of Homer and Hesiod, lyric poetry, the ancient tragedians Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides and the comic poet Aristophanes, as well as in the works of the historians Herodotus, Thucydides, Strabo and Arrian, and the philosophic discourse of Plato. This study provides a stroll through ancient Greek literature via the references to Thrace.
