The cocoon houses of Evros combine housing with spaces for breeding silkworms. These buildings of different sizes and periods, with standard construction peculiarities, are characteristic of the architecture in Soufli, Evros. The older storey small cocoon house is built with mad and timbering. The cocoon houses of the late 19th century and the beginnings of the 20th are bi-leveled or with three levels, of industrial character, with a special morphology and representing the architecture of the Ottoman period. The evolution of the traditional Thracian residence to the specialized one with combined use, is reflected on these buildings.
