Prefecture of Rhodope: Culture

The region of Rhodope has a long history. It is the land of Orpheus and the Maenads, the companions of Dionysus, god of wine. The first evidence of habitation in the area is testified by the Paleolithic stone tools (10.000-7.000 BC) and the Neolithic (4.500-3.000 BC) settlement excavated at Parademe tumulus.
